Interesting review - this poet sounds very ingenious. I have forgotten what "ekphrasis" means (a term of Charles Bernstein's?) - but the reviewer is right - there is no necessary conflict between schools for literature etc and good writers - in fact one would expect that talent is the greater is the student is critical and humble enough to learn (as well as critical enough to reject what he/she feels is "cloned" or not for him/her).

It doesnt mean we all need to go to poetry or creative writing schools - there are benefits, clearly.

The danger might be producing more of the same - but the intelligence/creativity of the individual will counteract that.

A good review - except maybe the term "committed" is a bit "worrying" - not sure why. Otherwise it is astute and sensitive and it urges me to covet another book I can't afford!
