Fair play to the reviewer for pointing out McGuckian's serious flaws. Despite her obvious talent there is little discipline in her poetry. Insight, and the actual ability to SAY something, seem to be relegated to form in her work. And this would be something to say if her form was actually interesting - it is not. Her refusal to engage in The Book of the Angel is in complete contrast to William Blake's Jerusalem, which manages to blend the transcendental with the material i.e. the world of Los with the world of London.
