I was also a little disappointed with Vera Pavlova’s poetry after hearing so many good things about it. I did think it was worthy of praise but unfortunatly something so popular makes expectations hard to live up to.

I bought this book on the strength of a few poems in Poetry and elsewhere, hoping to find a poetry that speaks directly about feeling and being. Although the poems do speak directly, and are "about" feeling and being, they're very slight and never go beyond the easy aphorism. Perhaps this is what makes her well-read, but I'm disappointed.
